Innovation Beyond Borders
Expert Interview with Adriano Amaral
On Tuesday, January 25th,
Conference Chair, Cheryl
Perkins, will conduct a one-on-one discussion with
Adriano Amaral. Adriano will discuss collaborative
success in education in two organizations he leads,
POSEAD, a leader in distance learning and CETEB, a
non-profit serving Portuguese speakers globally. He will
also share his experience in growing the private sector
while serving in the government of Brasilia and his past
work in turning around floundering companies in Brazil.
BACKGROUND
INFORMATION - ADRIANO AMARAL
Adriano Amaral
is the co-founder and CEO of CETEB, a non-profit
educational organization that has dramatically advanced
education in Portuguese-speaking nations. He is also the
co-founder and CEO of POSEAD, a leading corporation for
distance learning offering post-graduate training for
Spanish and Portuguese-speaking customers. Both
organizations have grown through steady strategic
innovation and collaborative alliances. POSEAD, for
example, has grown at an average annual rate of 44% over
the past 5 years.
Adriano founded
the Idea Management Consulting Group and led it from
1997 to 2006. Idea Management Consulting Group stepped
in and presided over many troubled South American
companies, restructuring them, strengthening strategy
and innovation, and consistently bringing them to
profitability. At least 15,000 full-time jobs exist that
can be directly attributed to the turnaround efforts
that Adriano led with Idea. In 2006, this group worked
with the government of Brasilia on a major State
modernization project, in which they redesigned and
restructured the Government of Brasilia from 46 State
Departments to 19 and generated over $4B in savings over
three years.
From 2006 until
2010, Adriano continued his work to improve the
effectiveness of government by serving as the Secretary
of State for Economic Development in the Federal
District of Brasilia, where he helped lead a remarkable
experiment in promoting prosperity, security, and
education by reducing the size of government and
allowing the private sector to flourish. In 2009, he was
honored with the “Alvorada Merit” Highest Commend by the
Government of Brasilia. In 2010 he stepped down from his
government post to focus on the leadership demands of
POSEAD, CETEB and IDEA Consulting Group.
Adriano is a
former Senior Associate of Booz, Allen, and Hamilton, an
Assistant Project Coordinator for the United Nations,
and Project Finance Analyst for the Brazilian Senate.
He is a
Professor of Financial Management and Strategy in the
Executive Development Program at IESE at the University
of Navarra, teaching in both Brazil and Spain. He is
also Professor of Control and Professor of Finance for
the Executive MBA programs at the IBMEC Business School
in Brasilia. He serves or has served on the boards of 16
organizations.
He has an MBA
from the IESE Business School at the University of
Navarra, Spain.
Note: According to The
Economist (Intelligence Unit) in their ranking of best
MBA programs in the World, IESE – Business School,
ranked 3rd in 2007, and 1st in 2005, 2006, 2008 and
2009. |
